January 21, 2010: VHA of Assam, in collaboration with the District Tobacco Control Cell, Jorhat organized a district level Advocacy workshop on 21st January. The workshop was graced by Ramesh Chand Jain, Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat.

The workshop was presided by Dr. Bijoy Sarma,Principal J.B college,Jorhat .Dr.P.C Borah , Pricipal C.K.B. College,Jorhat Dr Balin Khagoria, OSD,Jorhat Medical College.

The event was graced by Shri.Ramesh Chand Jain, Deputy Commissioner,Jorhat as a distinguish guest who made an appeal to all the participants present at the workshop, to work towards making Jorhat the first smoke Free town in the entire North-East. The programme was also attended by the representatives from Govt. deptt. and other civil society group members. The Principal of J.B. college and C.K.B Commerce College agreed to make their Colleges tobacco free with the help of student community.

Mr. Samiran Baruah,District Focal Point, DTCC, Jorhat, Ms Jyotika Baruah,VHAA and Ms.Niva Deori,VHAA shared the initiative taken so far towards the enforcement of COTPA at their respective districts.
